This is the final cache of 5 caches in this short "Snake Bit" Series. My dog Penne and I were camped nearby and wandered out on this plateau for a nice little walk, or so I thought.
We made it out to the point here and as I was heading back I noticed she was acting "a little funny"... you know what I mean? Not herself.
I didn't think too much about it, but about halfway back to my truck she sat down in a small patch of shade and I thought to myself again, "a little odd...", normally she'd be running around me and sniffing stuff. I walked back to see what she was doing and that was when I saw the snake bite... the fang marks on her face. It was hard to miss, her muzzle was swollen up to nearly double it's normal size and she could hardly walk.
Yeah, Penne had been bitten. We took her straight to a Vet in Vegas who did all the right things and as a result Penne is recovering and doing well. Wahooooo!!!!!!!!!
This cache is about .8 mi from the "Snake Pit"... aka parking. It's a short and quick walk but don't forget it can be extremely hot and dry here. Carry water, wear a hat, and watch out for snakes. I DO NOT recommend this walk for children. There is some moderate exposure and some steep edges that children could fall from. I DO NOT recommend anyone walk to any edge and look down... the ground is just too soft and rotted and could easily collapse if you're too close to the edge.
